Robot Revolution

Siri on iPhone 4S reminds me of watching the Jetsons cartoon when I was a kid.  All the high tech gadgets and the robot maid on the show seemed so futuristic back then.  The future is here with Siri, the talking robot.  Robots have been around for awhile, but I think Apple might have started the robot revolution for the common people.  Your wish is its command.

Colored Jeans Trend

I'm a blue jeans girl and not sure if I could wear all these colors, BUT I'm seeing a lot of colored jeans which will probably be a big trend this spring.

Behind the Scenes

It was a balmy 39 degrees yesterday.  For this photo shoot, I wanted to convey 'Margaux on the go' so we had a great (freezing) time taking action shots at the train station and around the Pearl District.  Here are some snap shots of the shoot with photographer, Pete Springer and model, Katie.

The Split Laptop Concept

I'm thinking that desktop PCs are probably going to become obsolete in the next 10 years or so and an increase in trend towards the tablets. This Split concept is the future of laptops where the monitor detaches into a tablet.  There are similar products already out there like here and here.

The Split laptop has a monitor tablet, keyboard, touch pad, and a stylus pen.  So depending on your tasks, you can detach and use parts as needed for different scenarios. For example, if you want to just watch a movie, only the tablet is needed. However, if you need to get work done, then attach the rest of the other components, and you have a fully functioning laptop.  It's also light weight, sleek and great for on the go.

Long Skirt Trend

I've been noticing a lot of shirts tucked into long skirts.  Skirts are nice because they're comfortable, flattering on just about everyone, and good for those not so slim feeling days.  Layering with tights or high boots would keep you warm during the winter, and an interesting belt would add a little more style.

Here are some long skirt styles that would be perfect to tuck in your shirt and accessorize with boots and a belt.

How to Make Simple Clothing Alterations

This is a little off topic, but I've over heard several women's conversations lately on altering clothes that I thought it would be a relevant topic to write about.  It's always a bummer when newly purchased clothes ends up not being what you expected after bringing it home from the store.  The fabric doesn't lay right or something suddenly bulges that you missed in the dressing room.  Alterations can add up, and here is a list of some average costs.  Many alterations are simple and can be done at home.

Cotton&Curls blog is a wealth of information on alterations and many other DIY clothing tutorials.  For example, here is a tutorial on how to turn a skirt into a pencil skirt or how to take in that baggy skirt that's sticks out at the hips:
Here are instructions on lengtheningshortening (with original hem), and turning pants into skinnies.  How about taking in that stretched out waste band?
Here is a way to take in a shirt that is too large and some creative ways to alter your shirt using pleats or shortening a shirt without hemming or cutting.

Sample Bag

Here is a peek at the sample Commuter Carryall with the new fabric.  Click on the image for a  close up.  It has been a bumpy road, but the bag finally made it.  It was my first time making custom fabric, and I had a great time designing the pattern and choosing the colors.  I think the teal green paired with honeysuckle pink and yellow turned out nice.  I've added a few new features after listening to feedback from women:  adjustable and padded shoulder strap, and the fabric has a coating that makes the bag water repellant and stain resistant (biggest request).  So no more stains and worrying about your laptop getting wet.

Vacation

For those of you who don't know me, it's AeSoon here.  I'm packing my bags and going on vacation.  Looking forward to sunny California weather, although the rain seemed to finally have gone away here in Portland.  When I get back, I'll be planning for a photo shoot with the new custom fabrics.  If nothing else goes wrong, the samples should arrive in 2 weeks.  I'm praying there aren't more mishaps.

Untangle Your Tangled Wires

It's not suprising to have a tangled wire mess behind your computer with so many tech gadgets these days.  It's annoying when you're trying to grab your laptop or phone charger to get out the door and mistakenly pull the wrong cord or pull out a ball of tangled wires or worse yet, you're crawling beneath the desk to unplug, hoping you disconnected the right one.  Here are some ways to organize your cables.

Domain Name Registration Scam

Here is an e-mail that I received last night, and it's not the first and for sure not the last.  If any of you have been getting these type of e-mails, it's a scam!  These companies make it sound like a company, with an American name, is trying to dominate your domain name overseas.  The e-mails are always courteous, like they're doing you a huge favor by giving you the rights to the registry so that you pay them $800+ in domain registry fees.

I have to admit that when I first received this type of e-mail, I was alarmed and paranoid that a company was trying to copy me and take over China with my business name.  After talking to my sister-in-law, who also owns a business, she told me she gets these false solicitations all the time.  I replied to the first e-mail and told them it was a scam and "shame on you", and they got really angry with me.

After asking around, domain registries don't operate that way--if they're available, anyone can buy it instantly.  Companies do not hold registries for other people.  Furthermore, since I didn't register all the domain addresses, the previous "company" should've been allowed to register the names.  However, these domain addresses are still available, and now another company is using it for their scam.
